In a time when top Hallyu groups are trying to break into the global music scene, YG artists, including BIGBANG and 2NE1, have proven successful by being showered with honors worldwide for their successful comebacks and astounding YouTube views.
In a short one to two month’s time, BIGBANG’s fifth mini album, Alive,
has topped countless charts and gained a good deal of online views. To
date, Blue has an amazing 19 million views on YouTube, while Bad Boy has
about 12 million and Fantastic Baby has received 18 million views.
Their honors for just this month include #2 Most Subscribed (This Month)
– South Korea, #1 Most Subscribed (This Month) Musicians – South Korea,
#5 – Most Viewed (Today/April 25) – Musicians, etc.
2NE1 has also had their fair share of online fame. Their track I am
the Best, which gained 1.6 million views in a period of two days and
currently has 40 million views to-date, received honors for being Top
Favorited and Korea’s Most Viewed. Their hit song Lonely also has over
24 million views. Since their debut, the hot girl band has managed to
snag #52 – Most Subscribed (All Time) – Musicians, #99 – Most Viewed
(All Time) – Musicians, #3 – Most Subscribed (All Time) – Musicians –
South Korea, #3 – Most Subscribed (All Time) – South Korea.
Statistics show that most views come from countries such as France,
Sweden, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mexico, revealing the global reach of
their music and influence. According to U.S. markets, YG bands are
classified under the Hip-Hop genre, which differs from the majority of
South Korean bands.
