K-POP SENSATION: Thousands queue in the wee hours to get tickets for 'Alive Tour 2012'
KUALA LUMPUR: THE K-Pop storm has whipped up a frenzy with more than 3,000 fans queuing for the ticket launch in Bukit Bintang yesterday.
Fans from around the country gathered on Friday to get tickets to see the boy band BigBang (a sub-unit of K-Pop) perform live in Malaysia.
BigBang, made up of members G-Dragon, TOP, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri, is one of the biggest K-Pop acts to hold a world tour this year, a much-anticipated concert that has led to sold-out nights in South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia.
Themed "Alive Tour 2012", the pop music group is set to perform at Stadium Merdeka here on Oct 27 before the superstars take on America and Europe to perform in 16 countries.
Language instructor Sheila Rahman from Penang queued up for tickets at 4am.
"My mom thinks that I am crazy, but K-Pop is the craze of this era."
"I just love their performance, style and looks!" the 26-year-old said in excitement.
She also flew to South Korea to watch them perform in June.
Mohd Raj Atan, 53, from Shah Alam, who was spotted in the queue amid thousands of young fans said, "My 20-year-old daughter has gone for class today, so I have been queuing from 6am to get her a ticket so that she can watch her favourite superstars live."
Part-time salesgirl Tan Kai Chin, 25, who started her wait at 10pm the night before, said she had to endure the hardships of not eating and holding her bladder to get the best tickets.
"It was not easy but I would definitely sacrifice anything just to catch a glimpse of them," said the Muar-born girl.
Tan, who has been a diehard fan of K-Pop since high school, said: "I have watched all three of the biggest K-Pop concerts in Malaysia. The BigBang would be my fourth."
Raymond Seow, 21, an undergraduate student at Monash University, was disappointed when he could not buy the VIP tickets which was priced at RM688, as it was sold out in 30 minutes after the booths opened.
"However, we still managed to get the priority premiere rock pit tickets which was sold at RM588," said Seow, who had waited since 5pm on Friday.
Concert organiser Running Into The Sun executive producer Wendy Ng said the BigBang Alive Galaxy Tour 2012 Malaysia was set to be the concert of the year.
"It will be a sky-high experience perfect for a night of high-energy partying, characteristic of global superstars BigBang's unique hip-hop and freestyle dance moves and famous party songs," she added.
Tickets were available from yesterday at ticketing booths and online bookings via Ticketcharge and Red Tix.
