[TRANSLATIONS] Taeyang's Interviews on F.ound Magazine, October Issue (Part 2/3)

| Tuesday, October 5

Read Part 1 HERE!

Q: You seem to be a very blissful artist, but you have to keep both fame and music quality now. What will you feel when you are facing the rumours, nervous?
Taeyang: Yes, I will feel nervous when I need to face the rumours, just like I am cheated.(Laugh) However, they still attract attention for me, I do think I should be thankful for them sometimes and I am sophisticated in dealing with them now.

Q: You do sing but we discovered that you have been paying much attention to the stage performance like ‘I ‘ll be there’. We think you must be tired by performing that. Will you not pay so much attention to singing for the sake of dancing well on the stage?
Taeyang: Ah…. In fact, I want to sing well deep from my heart.

Q: Are you lying? (Laugh) Why do you pay so much attention to the stage effect? It is interesting. Taeyang: What I can do right now is to sing well on my dancing stage. I always want to do so. I firmly believe that base on this , I can do everything well on the stage. That’s why I am striving for it continuously.

Q: Since the show was broadcasted on TV, it cannot be ignored by the audience. In fact, the singers performing in other parts were very relaxing.
Taeyang: To be frank, I have performed in so many music shows but not of them are my cup of tea. Some of them put so many restrictions on me. Perhaps I was affected by the thought that whenever I can, I have to perform. If I only have to perform in a short period of time, I think that the visual effect will gain attention more easily then the auditory effect. Ever since I released this album, I want to have some performances which are more comfortable. Whenever there is music, I want there to be filled by my music. However, I don’t feel there are any meanings in performing in shows which do not enable me to communicate with the audience.

R: Friends of foreign countries always ask us why Korean singers have to change clothes so frequently to perform on the stage.

Taeyang: So, what I feel now is not music but ‘activities’.

R: What do you think can contribute to the music show, isn’t it?
Taeyang: Just like what I said before, we just can not change the system so I am tired. ‘Programmes= more rewards’. Although this is just a thinking, I am not sure how much we can achieve on these shows.

R: What a pity! And you have produced a very good album which you have given 20-30 performances.
Taeyang: I have not thought about that before. However, I just thought ‘what else can I do besides being a singer? I just want to give a good show.’. I want to find a place where everything for performance can be found.

R: What do you choose, a singer who sing good songs or a singer who can sing songs well? (Laugh)
Taeyang: I am one who can sing songs well, no, I am the one who sings good songs.(Laugh)

R: I know that you would say you want to be both, haha.
Taeyang: But I think there are many singers who can sing well but not many who have the opportunity to sing good songs. If you want to make good music, you have to love music at the first place. If the music is not so good but with a good singer, the quality of the song can be enhanced too.

R: Nowadays, there are many people who evaluate the artists not by quality but by quantity, such as how well your albums are sold and how many times your songs are played...

Taeyang: I do not investigate on this otherwise, it will be so boring.

R: But what a pity if our music industry is like that!
Taeyang: No matter how it looks like, I believe what I persist now is right. In fact, after releasing the album, what motivates most is the feedback that I received from overseas. I have to have a broader view and look at a wider market.

R: But having garnered a place on ITUNES does not mean that every Westerner has purchased your CD.
Taeyang: I know that. I am just hestiated a bit. I don’t want to do things impulsively. I don’t want to rush things. I don’t want to have that feeling. I will have nightmares if I feel pressure- the nightmare of haven’t prepared anything but I have to walk on the stage to perform.

R: You do not have any pieces of severe criticisms and scandals so far. What is your secret of staying isolated from these?
Taeyang: I don’t do things when I am not 100% sure or which I know I will feel guilty after doing. I must obey this. If I do what I am not fully confident with, this will become my obstacle in life. Then if it ends up in disasters, I don’t think I can stand with it.

R: The MV has already been release, isn’t it? There are two versions of ‘I Need A Girl, and they are directed by the same person? Taeyang: Yes, it was an accident. And I my opinions were not taken into consideration at the first time.

R: You said you have a say on everything in the earlier time which is opposite to what you say now.
Taeyang: In every MV that I have released so far, I have watched and edited them befor they were released. However, the ‘I Need a Girl’ was an exception. Since I was so busy at that moment, they suddenly released that without asking my opinion in advance. I had not watched the ending yet but that was put on my homepage. When I logged on to see the page, there were loads of feedback's like tornado's sweeping, then, my company ordered to get the MV back. These all happened in just 2 hours.

R: Besides the part that others said you were copying from **( a singer), the remaining parts did not look like that belonged to Taeyang at all. I felt it was difficult to understand even if I watched it to the end.
Taeyang: Huh… I think they originally put the camera on a carton so the MV just was not like a visual image.

R: Then the new director redirected a new MV for ‘I Need A Girl’. How will you repay him? (Laugh)
Taeyang: I feel sorry as well as gratitude for him. He could not bear my image was tarnished by the MB

R: Have you changed the thought of going to America to devople your career?
Taeyang: No, since I am so determined to be a singer, I want to perform on the world stage . I have not changed my thought until now.

R: Seven faced problems when he had gone to America. Haven’t your determination affected because of it?
Taeyang: No, I still hold the same belief.

R: In fact, after you have released your international album, we do expect you will have further plans on developing your overseas market subsequently. Taeyang: This is only my plan.(Laugh) After the album has been released, I wanted to have many performances and I wanted to work very hard. I even had thought of ‘ singing with a microphone on the street’. (Laugh)

R: I feel that you are the kind of person w
ho ‘do whatever you want to’ from your words. Taeyang: Ah… If the reality is the same- whenever I want to do it, I can do it’, that will be great. However, there are problems when I put that into practice. Since it is not only related to me but also my company.

R: Are you that kind of person who choose music to listen to?
Taeyang: Yes.

R: You do have preference over some kinds of music?
Taeyang: Yes, a bit.

R: Don’t you think that it is not so good? Since you have started making your own music already?
Taeyang: I do think I have preference over certain kinds of music. It is just like we don’t have s*** when we can have rice so I also don’t listen to music that I don’t like.

R: I know that you receive a lot of CDs from your fans, how many have you listen to then?

Taeyang: 50%. But I will try my best to listen to more.
